On 28th April Ecoaction presented the report “Post-feed-in tariff Ukraine: New renewable power support mechanisms”. Author of the study, Maksym Babaiev, CEO of the energy investment platform GetMarket, analyzed alternative remuneration mechanisms for the renewable energy projects within liberalized electricity markets, which can support development of renewables in Ukraine.
The report gives an overview of relevant mechanisms from international practice and provides policy recommendations and proposed measures that can facilitate uptake of renewable energy sources (RES).
Questions that are covered in the report:
– What are the challenges with the current support schemes for RES in Ukraine and the world?
– What alternative remuneration options for RES are available (“green” auctions, net metering, corporate PPAs, etc.)?
– How can these mechanisms bring RES to wholesale markets, where they can compete not only with each other but also with other types of power generation?
We hope this report will serve as an impulse for policy discussions and design, that will solve problems in the electricity market and streamline integration of renewables in Ukraine’s power system.
Special thanks are expressed to the representatives of European Commission, Energy Community Secretariat, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, USAID Energy Security Project, Regulatory Assistance Project and Berlin Economics for participation in the presentation of the report and their critical reflections.
