This year Ecoaction marked 7 years of environmental work. However, the war gave us no time to celebrate. Our work concerning energy efficiency, renewable energy, countering climate change, clean air for all, and sustainable development of agriculture in Ukraine had to be put on hold. But Ecoaction is still fighting, that’s why we ask for your support!
Since the war started, we made sure all our employees are in safety and have everything to work effectively. Luckily, we have secured our grant funding at least for this year, but now we need our work to be better and louder than ever. Why is that, you may ask?
1. We collect and analyze the consequences Russian aggression has on the environment.
We have established a workgroup specifically dedicated to collecting evidence of environmental crimes the Russian army has committed or caused on Ukrainian territory. Together with other NGOs and the Ministry of Environment, we are looking for ways to sue the Russian government while collecting mounting evidence against it.
2. We are warning the world about food shortages caused by war.
Since Ukraine and Russia are major crop exporters, this war will disrupt the world food chain. This will affect primarily developing countries. At the same time, a third of Ukrainian agricultural land won’t be used due to risk. Raising this topic will push foreign actors to act instead of talk.
3. We support other Ukrainian ecoactivists.
In March Ecoaction together with Greenpeace Poland and Greenpeace CEE opened a fund for temporarily relocated Ukrainian environmental activist. The purpose is to help activists rent a safe place to stay and work during this difficult time. We also help Ukrainian NGOs get funding for communication activities during the war. In addition, we provide our partner municipalities with humanitarian help when needed.
4. We are already making plans for Green Reconstruction of Ukraine.
Although we are certain of our win, it may take time to get there. After that Ukraine will face a dilemma: should we rebuild fast or in a sustainable way. We are researching the ways to combine those two approaches. Our goal is to work out a plan that will cherish the lives of all Ukrainians as well as the environment.
So if you share our views on the current situation in Ukraine and the world in general and want to support the Ukrainian environmental movement, you can support us financially. We appreciate every amount of donation!
