The study “Transformation experiences of coal regions: Recommendations for Ukraine and other European countries” includes:
- review of conclusions made as a result of an integrated analysis of positive and negative practices of coal mines shutdown in four European countries: Germany, Romania, Czech Republic and Ukraine
- recommendations for a just energy transition from coal combustion toward sustainable development
The work is comprised of an analysis of national energy sector transformation policies and a study of situation in separate regions that were affected as a result of such transformations.
Authors combined results of studies conducted in four countries into a list of recommendations regarding coal mines closure management, taking into consideration economic perspectives and possible negative social consequences. The recommendations are addressed to national, regional and local authorities.
