The impacts of climate change are already being felt in Ukraine: extreme heat, declining crop yields, freshwater scarcity, more frequent droughts, and destructive floods have become our new reality. According to scientific projections, these impacts will only intensify. This is why, alongside reducing greenhouse gas emissions, it is essential to implement solutions that help societies adapt to these changes.

Climate change adaptation is the process of adjusting to current and future climate conditions in a way that reduces risks and minimizes losses for both communities and ecosystems. Timely adaptation measures not only protect people and nature but also provide significant economic benefits: every dollar invested in adaptation can generate more than ten dollars in returns over the next decade.

Ecoaction analyses existing opportunities and practices for helping cities and communities adapt to the climate crisis. In our advocacy work, we promote the integration of adaptation measures into national, sectoral, and local strategies. One of our key priorities is the implementation of Nature-based Solutions. We support approaches that rely on ecosystem protection — from creating green urban spaces to restoring natural river flows and floodplains. Such measures, together with forest protection and sustainable land and water management, can significantly strengthen community resilience to climate impacts.

Ecoaction is also involved in the project “Supporting Ukraine in the implementation of the Paris Agreement and Adaptation to the impact of climate change in the Black Sea region (PAABS) ”, implemented with the support of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany under the International Climate Initiative (IKI). Within this project, Ecoaction works with communities in the Odesa region to develop climate adaptation action plans and implement adaptation measures in the water sector.
